Evenline researchers in collaboration with MIT developed a new way of processing recycled glass. This research explored the use of recycled glasses with our molten glass 3D printing technology. We showed promising results using recycled architectural glass as well as recycled bottles to make both art and structures.
We developed an approach to fabricate interlocking glass blocks. They’re incredibly strong. We can’t wait to start making larger scale structures that can be assembled and then disassembled.
The moon is about half silica by weight. If you get it hot you can make glass. Some estimates are that getting a pound of material onto the lunar surface could cost upwards of $500,000. So let’s build things locally. We’re working on technologies to cast, weld and 3D print in space.
