A perfect circle interpreted by time and material. Each of these objects are made with one line of code, simply telling the machine to spin. Molten glass interprets this one line of code and builds upon it. I see patterns emerge in the glass, both large and small. Each time I sink into this work, I find something new.

What’s possible from a single line of code? The results are compelling, unexpected, and more complex than many of the programmed artworks I've made. Each object is a reflection of glass in its molten state, dependent on the variables of temperature and the unique behaviors of different glass bodies.

The code provides a rotation rate, height and diameter and from there each of these objects grows to full height. At the start of the print, the glass falls around 14 inches forming complex coils. As the object gets taller the distance the glass falls becomes shorter and the chaos introduced in each layer decreases. Each object runs until it has filled the print volume and then it is manually stopped.

Understanding a line of machine code or G-Code:

G1 = Specifies that the coming information is for a simple move command
F = Instructs the speed of the move in mm/min
A = The rotational position in degrees
X = The position of the X-Axis in mm
Y = The position of the Y-Axis in mm
Z = The position of the Z-Axis in mm
